Just a touch of smoke and a few sour notes. Acquired: (50ml sample bottle) from an Isle of Jura Tasting Pack. Soft notes of brown sugar and burnt caramel too, followed by stewed red fruits and nectarine. The distillery has only recently begun producing small amounts of peated malt for the single-cask market. Nose: Notes of crisp red apple from the start, but also touches of cinnamon, cardboard and liquorice. Does that mean proper solera casks? Maybe. From 2010, the Jura Single Malts met with great success, the Scottish distillery following its rivals Glenfiddich and Glenmorangie. It doesn’t have an age statement and was finished in casks that have previously held 20 year old Pedro Ximénez sherry.
